    Server crashes

Hi - one of our servers has started crashing intermittently during the night.

There are no unusual log entries just prior to the restart - just a note about the previous erstart being unexpected.

Any ideas what might cause this?

    Cheers

Could be a wide variety of things. Are the restarts specifically timed or random?

    Power?

I'd make sure memory dumping is enabled and disable the automatic reboot function so you can at least see if it's blue screening and get an indication as to why prior to investigating the dump.

Do you have any mirrored drives?

Also look at your other servers to see what they were doing at the same time ... if you have server A crashing then server B might have been connected and you could see part of the issue from there.

The other thing would be to do driver checks to see how up to date they are and whether the last batch of MS updates is know to cause issues ...

Oh ... and if you can shut it down, blow out the dust and chunks of brick, reset connections to memory / drives / etc ... try and rule out hardware issues too.
