    Windows Sharepoint Services

    Hi Guys,

I am about to install Sharepoint Services on our school network, can somebody please let me know if there is a security risk on installing it on a domain controller? or would it be better to host it on another server (e.g print server)? or should it be done on a dedicated server? Please advise

    Thanks

I wouldn't call it a security risk on a DC, I'm sure MS would advise against it.

Personally, I would install it on its own dedicated box, the last time I played with it, I was given a rubbish PC to try it on and it crippled the machine to bits, so I split the front and database over two machines and it worked ok... in short, it's a resource hog

I wouldn't install it on a DC you may get problems with both Active Directory and WSS.

If you do install it on your DC ensure you install SP1 for WSS 3.0

I Wouldn't Install it on your DC Either!

IF you dont have any other servers to run it on, use a virtual machine..?

I know someone who does run it on a DC with no problem. If you run SBS you will run it on DC.
