Default ntbackup not working. Empty backup logs.

Hi,

I am running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition 32bit. Things have
worked fine for over a year.

Now ntbackup will start running, estimate the size then start backing up and
stop after a hundred thousand or so bytes. This happens if from a scheduled
task or if I run the backup wizard and do it immediately.

The backup log file created is blank.

The Event Viewer log has this entry:

Source: Application Error
Category: (100)
Event ID: 1000
Description: Faulting application ntbackup.exe, version 5.2.3790.3959,
faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00440031.

Help is massively appreciated.

I can't see it in Add/Remove Windows Components.

From what I understand it's only on the XP Home disc? Having said that, I have tried copyinf the ntbackup.exe executable from another server that's working but that didn't solve the problem.

I tried using the version of ntbackup from my computer to no avail.

Searching around on the internet I found it could be VSS related, but the only fix was included in SP2, which I have installed already.
