@Lee_K you are right since 2k3 they have added a per user CAL option to the existing per device CAL option. In a school environment the device CALs are usually the most cost effective as there are often far more users than devices.
The per server model is not very common but is still an option that is avalible and has its uses. For example a web server that only needs the default 5 connections avalible as web site connections are not counted if not authenticated..

Ah yes a webserver would be an instance where per server would be useful.
