URL Shortcut on All Domain PCs >> Help
I have a Win2K3 DC with XP & Win7 clients and want to push a URL shortcut/icon onto all Desktops.
Can someone please help us out, with the easiest way of achieving this?, not great on scripts, so doing via GPO preferred.
Thanks in advance.

Group Policy Preferences will handle this with ease.
It's built in to Windows 7 but you'll need to deploy an update to the XP machines via WSUS. Here's how to set it up if you've never used it before:

The update for GPP is quite old, I would have thought it possibly would be on the desktops already.

That should do it, save as createlink.vbs and run with "cscript.exe <PATH TO VBS>\createlink.vbs" in GP.
WshShell = CreateObject("Wscript.shell")
strDesktop = WshShell.SpecialFolders("Desktop")
oMyShortcut = WshShell.CreateShortcut(strDesktop + "\MyLink.lnk")
oMyShortcut.TargetPath = "http://mywebsite.com"

Create/edit a policy and add it to the user policy under windows / scripts / logon I think.
Store the script centrally in netlogon or similar as long as everyone can read it who needs to it shouldn't matter.
You can test by creating the vbs file and running as a user, should create the link for them on the desktop
