Network is windows server 2003. Workstations Xp.
we have a problem with office online clipart. where the workstations freeze when trying to search for pictures. Its trying to search office online and because we are going through a proxy server is asks for username and password after 5mins.
I have downloaded and installed the office templates in GPO and turned off the online clipart. When i go to clipart on workstation get the following error message:
clipart cannot acces a clip catalog. check connection to network etc
any ideas. What i have done i think is correct.
i went to : user config//admin temp//clip organizer//disable clips online access from clip organizer// enabled

Re: trying to control office clipart on network
Hi, This is John from Microsoft, sorry you're having difficulties searching with clipart. What version of Office do you have deployed to your organization? Also, do you reproduce this issue using both the Clipart Taskpane and standalone Clip Organizer?
If this is the issue I'm thinking of, it is specific to proxy authentication and we've fixed it in the Office 2007 release.
I see that you've disabled online clips through the registry. Have you also tried unchecking "Web Collections" from the Clipart Taskpane "Search In" dropdown menu?
Talk to you soon,
Thanks,
John

Re: trying to control office clipart on network
Hi
To John of MS, we are having the same problem with Office 2003.
Can you tell us how we can configure the proxy authentication in 2003 to correct this problem.
Cheers
Gary

John - may I take this opportunity to say that getting rid of local clipart was the worst "improvement" you ever made to Office!
Welcome to Edugeek by the way!

John - 99% of us can't upgrade to Office 2007 due to incompatibilities within other software such as SIMS.net. Whilst many of us do have schools agreements and are entitled to use it, we simply can't - so saying that a fix is available in a new release isn't realistic - if it is a problem that you know exists then you should fix it for your paying customers.

I am having the same problem with Clipart in office 2003. I was able to come up with a work around using ISA 2004 but now the LEA have changed the school internet proxy to cachepilot and I’m getting the same problem again.
Currently I’m using port 8080 to grant internet access with requires authentication. is there anyway to tell office to use a different port to access clipart? If so i could allow office anonymous access to the internet (i know anonymous access to clipart works on my system. I don't know about others). Any ideas?

Hi John welcome to the forum and thanks everyone for having the same problem.
John i am using Office 2003. Very weird to ask office to search online for clipart by default.
This problem is causing alot of trouble. Students unpluging machines from the wall to restart the machine because they thought it had crashed.
I have tried load of different methods and at least i know that i am not the only on out there.
I could just remove clipart all together but i don't regard that as a solution. You have got to be able to untick search web collections for all users using the office clipart gpo.
i have installed SP2 and SP3 hoping that there was a fix for this in there but i was wrong.
Anybody else have a solution.

I have stopped Office from searching online through GPO
I added GAL11.adm to our learners desktop lockdown policy and then enabled Hide 'Web Collections' with enforce on ticked under Microsoft Clip Organizer

Luckily for us here, we use Wingate proxy, which with the Winsock Redirector allows any program to access the internet without* using a proxy.
The Winsock redirector makes the connection from the proxy server to the net (using the south west grid for learning proxy) to the internet and allows office to believe that it is connected directly.
I know this doesnt help this situation too well, however I would recommend wingate as another internal proxy solution
fooby...
... doesnt work for wingate.

There's a topic somewhere on here where I detial how to fix this to an extent by installing the Media content from Office XP on a server and the clients searching that only.
Involves a Group Policy to disable searching online and running a command on each PC.

http://www.edugeek.net/index.php?nam...hlight=clipart
That will give you local (local server) clipart.
You'll need to use the Office adm template to stop office searching online.
