Trying to add a HP1320N as a local TCPIP Printer

    Hi

I previously was using a hp 1320n locally attached to a pc.

As my title suggests I'm trying to connect a HP1320N to a 2003R2 or 2008R2 printer server.

However, when I use the printer wizard to create a new TCPIP printer port for the printer it is not detecting the network card jetdirect (J7958A). All I get is the standard unable to detect device do you want to use a generic network card etc...

It has obtained a dhcp address happily enough and I can browse to the web browser interface. I have googled around without much luck - any ideas?

    no firmware updates available.

does it work if you just carry on? We have loads of printers which say they detect the network card but don't... doesn't seem to matter it works as a generic card.

Ok, I finished the wizard, but was unable to print the test page - it just says the device is not supported when I try and print a test page. I tried both the hp universal print driver and the 1320n driver as well.

Use LPR / LPD to print to a jet direct network card / hp printer

Can either do it this way by adding it as a tcp/ip printer and adjusting the protocol type and enabling and typing in the que name or in step 4 hopefully you will have the option to add an LPR / LPD Printer and do it this way

You will need to use the relevant que name, generally LPR ( but lower case ) so lpr or print ( either lower or uppercase ) are 2 common que names.

thanks for your input - still didn't work, just tried identical printer with identical J7958A card - dam thing worked first time and detected the printer immediately - must be a faulty card.

Factory reset and not 100% sure but I think you can download an app from hp to scan and find all jet direct devices and update firmware ( although not sure if that was for the jet direct card or the printer itself or both ?? )
