DCPROMO demote 2003 server but keep printers.

Stupid question but wanted to run it past everyone first.

I need to demote (dcpromo) our old 2003 server but this server currently is also our printer server.

Will it cause any knock on issues to the print server if I run dcpromo.

    Cheers

    Hi there,
Demoting the server from being a domain controller should not affect the print services but as with any significant change to a server I would recommend ensuring you have a good backup just in case!

The most common problem I have seen when demoting domain controllers is you need to check the DNS server addresses on the local network cards are set to request from the remaining DNS/DCs on your network rather than 127.0.0.1 which is the case on many DCs.

    Regards,

    David Irwin
