I am hoping that 8.1 makes some improvements, I'll see if I manage to get it installed :p
not done much with win8 yet but was appalled when i installed the 8.1 update and found that it does the windows.old folder trick and completely nuked the wireless on the laptop (HP 250G1) system restore and it works right out of the box.
i think they REALLY have dropped a massive b*llock with win 8 on none touch devices
How do you mean nuked the wireless? The 4 machines I'm testing with Windows 8 on (not updated as yet) are the same model of laptop!! I don't want to upgrade them if it's going to screw up!
Great. Just great :( Cheers
it might not be an issue for you but i just hate the fact there is a 10GB folder sat about doing nothing.
and its for this reason i dont do upgrades...
God I would never put this out live! I'm deploying 7 now and just testing 8, although I've found enough problems to put me off for a good while
its pretty much put me off even thinking about windows 8 in any kind of professional environment.
I followed some suggestions from *a lot* of people having the same issue and ran the windows update troubleshooter which apparently fixed the update database and repaired some component. Now the updates are starting, then failing but at least giving me an error:
"Something happened and this app couldn't be installed. Error Code: 0x80248014"
Something happened - another great MS error message :)
Oh, I remember the update fail, that happened when I first got my W8 tablet, had forgotten having to kill the WU db to get it going.
Ok right more progress, I have a fully patched Win 8 system and.... no 8.1 update showing up for me.
Rage is building....
Also, worth nothing, that during my trawls I have discovered that, currently, 8.1 will not install on Enterprise versions or installations activated with KMS...
edit: Oh also some of my earlier problems were solved by actually logging into the Windows Store...
