Windows 8 on a Windows 2003 server?

Hi there,
I am due to visit a school this week who have recently bought a number of Windows 8 laptops. They have a 2003 server, and I am dubious as to whether these laptops will be able to fully operate via group policy.
Has any one else managed to successfully add Windows 8 laptops to Server 2003 and if so, how are they finding group policy works with the Windows 8 systems?? I am presuming the server will need to be 100% up to date with Windows Updates to provide the updated policies.

You'll need to install RSAT on a Windows 8 workstation to manage GPOs. 2003 can process ADMX templates, but you can only create/edit templates from 2008 Server or later.
