Windows 8 to RTM first week of August, go on sale late October

Sources: Windows Team Blog / Windows Server Blog

Windows 8 will be released to manufacturing the first week of August, and the first PCs running the operating system will go on sale in late October, Microsoft confirmed today.

The timing is not a surprise. It's within the range of what we expected given the availability of a Release Preview in late May. (Source)

This is pretty much the same release time as Windows 7 (late August)
However, unlike Windows 7, I wont be rushing to put Windows 8 on my PC any time soon....

Windows 2012 possibly, when I get the rest of the bits for my new ESX server..

Well for those who have had enough of life I'm sure this would be an innovative way to end your days... death by a thousand biro stabs would certainly be original

Wouldn't put 8 nor Server 2012 near a production network until there's a good 6-12 months of updates, fixes and documentation behind it.

Yay i know what i'm doing for the next year then, same story as windows 7 i think.... 6 months of testing, problem finding and solving then 6 months of updating servers 2012 etc etc etc. Albeit not as bad as 7 as i guess alot of drivers should be compatible as it's essentially the same behind the scenes?

I think the staff here would have a heart attack. They still don't like Office 2010 and ask for 2007 back!

We also have a school inspection next term (it is due) so if i go windows 8, they would most likely hang me

Windows 8 can do exactly what Windows Vista did in this school. Be non existent, it can burn in hell.

I've upgrade to every new OS since 95 - but not this time - I will stick with Windows 7 thank you very much!!

Surprised at the lack of love for 2010, the new screen clipping tools impress most people

Will Windows 8 be the kickstart for Linux to gain traction on the desktop, it's certainly something I'm beginning to look at more seriously now.

When do you think Volume Licencing People will get it. Will it be the same time as RTM?

    Thanks
