It's running fine on the RM Slate/Pegatron Masterpad (although you do have to install the Bluetooth drivers in compatability mode for W7). It also seems a lot slicker than the developer preview version with a lot more 'shiny' now as standard.
My one big bugbear is that the screen auto-rotation still does not work and you have to use the Millenium app (PITA) to do this. Otherwise I'm quite impressed so far in W8 as a slate OS, but I've not yet set it up as a VM to try out it's desktop prowess.
A piece of advice for the RM Slate though is that you should install the following of their drivers:

    Pegatron ACPI
    Realtek HD Audio
Bluetooth/Wireless LAN (in W7 compatability mode)
    Millenium
    Chrontel 7036 (HDMI encoder chip)
    Pegatron ADXL346
    Broadcom VD920H (HD decoder chip)

Leave the other drivers as standard as they are newer than those offered by RM and seem to work just fine.
    You can obtain the drivers from here: RM Slate 100 driver collection (Microsoft Windows 7 - 32 bit) [M11JB / 0ALC269 / 0GMA500 / AR9002 / AX88772]

while i see the advantage of core it does mean that to do much more than delete files (yes i know command is better than that but its a pain) you need to take up 2 pcs server and a n other workstation surely its better to have a dedicated console only admins can use?

and i shudder to think doing user management via a touch screen think i would rather remember dsadd commands lol

How is that any different to using Remote Desktop to administer a server? I haven't sat at the local console of a server in years, they are all in a different room.

its not but i often use the console as either pcs are in use or in some cases id have to go get a laptop from a trolley hope its charged etc its just easier to have a console nobody else uses

    Suits me

Akshully haven't they promised some intermediate server version, 1/2 way between core and full GUI and said that's what we should use?

Apart from the new copy dialogue and the task manager it doesn't look like anything else has improved on the desktop....

Just had installed it on a spare Dell Optiplex 760 here.

All I can say is 'ugh' !

I work in IT and I can't 'use' it - it's terrible. Is it time to change career because of this?

These new "hotcorners" are frustrating to use in a non full screen VM. I seriously hope they dont exist in Server 8....

I'll be using that space to pin an icon either with "Start" written on it or a curiously close resemblance to the Win7 start button if I have to make significant use this OS on a desktop/laptop (what I was essentially trying to do last night)

It's like XBox Live glued onto Windows 7. I really wasn't expecting it to be so hard to use and disjointed.
