I installed the Windows 8 preview and I must say I was rather impressed with the boot time. To get to the login screen from power off it took me 7 seconds on a VM (No fancy SSD)
hopefully the final release is as fast as this.
What’s your boot up times?

yeah the ones on the domain take around 25/30 (ssd version) and 40/50 with normal HDD. quick booting and login times has enabled us to turn the computers off after 15 mins of nobody logged in rather then have to leave them on during frees as they take forever to boot!

19th September 2011, 10:35 PM #8 I've just tried this, 1 second after POST for initial switch on using an ssd, but oddly 4-5 seconds after POST if I do a restart.

26th September 2011, 01:52 PM #11 Is this just to get to the logon screen? It's Applying Computer settings, the AV and roaming profiles that kill the logon time usually. Boot speed is pretty good on most hardware these days

Has any tracked the boot up times after you've started adding more than just the bare bones OS (previous versions always seemed fast until you added a little day to day bloat...)

My non domained machines which boot have our full music image including Cubase sibelius, av and all other bits required by them that is to a useable desktop. Domain machines are slightly slower.

3-4 seconds with new SSD. My old dinosaur of a computer was like 2 minutes to boot.
