I had a play around with it over the weekend and some bits were quite good, will install it on a RM Slate tomorrow after making a backup and see how it runs on a tablet

Been playing with Win 8 on a laptop and a PC at home and I have mixed views
I've started putting stuff into my blog so won't repeat here..

Except for the Metro UI.. I'm not too sure about it just yet.. I think it'll be good for tablet device (don't have one so cannt try..) but not a traditional PC or Laptop..

Few Questions I have about Metro which I hope will get answered in upcoming Beta's and RC's..

    1) If Joined to a Domain - is Metro disabled? Quick glance thru local GPO's don't show any setting to do this.. or will it work similar to WinXP and the Welcome Screen..
    2) Will MS change the behaviour of Metro UI so that it only activates if installed on a device with a touch screen...

As I keep playing I'll blog more findings..

I saw a preview on Youtube and it looked quite good. I drew parallels with the Unity interface in Ubuntu (something I didn't like at first, but now prefer to Gnome)

Now, I like Unity a lot, and if this was a similar model I'd be quite happy to work with it.

However, I tried the preview edition on a real machine, and boy, what a mess. The OS is schizophrenic. It doesn't know if it's a shell (ala TouchWiz over Windows mobile), or a rahash of 7. The interface is utterly inconsistent. It's like working on a couple of virtual machines, flipping between them depending on the task.

You have to remember that this particular preview is not really aimed at laptops and desktops. It is to get developers working on Metro apps. If you use W8 on a tablet (report soon!) it all becomes clear as to how it all fits together and it all flows wonderfully. This preview isn't even a beta, so if anyone has any doubts about the desktop I'd ask them to keep calm. Versions with better desktop features will come eventually, but Microsoft have to focus on getting Metro developers creating content now, not on release. The W8 desktop variant will run pretty much anything currently available for Windows so they don't really have to look in that direction.
But trust me on this, once you see it on a tablet you'll go 'Ah, got it!' and see what it's all about.

have you tried it on a smartbaord yet as id imagine anything that works well on a tablet should also be good for interactive whiteboards
