What about installing it to a VHD? No need to use partitions any more.

Cheers @Arthur - I want to give Windows 8 a shot, but after an hour with it on Friday night, it's not winning me over! So obviously not designed with traditional keyboard and mouse use in mind

And therein lies the problem... hopefully MS will soon realise there's more keyboards and mice out there than touch-screens... all very well chasing the tablet market but don't ruin the desktop experience to do it!

I'm of the understanding that there will be a desktop version of Win8 when it is properly released - at least I hope there will be!

but they can already do mouse/keyboard interfaces quite well so at the early stages it makes sense to try the stuff they do less well and get feedback make changes then worry about the bread and butter stuff they can do in their sleep

Right, metro is definitely not for keyboard and mouse, so using the classic shell and enjoying it. Much prefer it to metro, and it feels like server 2k8r2 on a laptop!!! :-)

I still dont get why they dont release a tablet version and a desktop version.

There is no real reason to integrate the two that I can see. One size fits all isnt always the best option.

I do TBH. I've used nothing but the RM Slate over this weekend with W8 installed. I can run Outlook and the rest of the office suite wonderfully as well as all of my other favorite applications (almost!). This in itself will make it suitable for Intel based tablets and tablet/laptop crossovers devices. I think it is a very smart move by Microsoft. If you have an Intel based cevice you won't have to purchase 'new' or alternate versions of the software you use day to day. If you have a desktop you can simply turn off Metro (in later released versions at any rate!) if you want. This version is to allow devs to start working on Apps for Metro whilst other software houses can still keep developing for Windows desktops. Have you played with it on a tablet yet Zag? I'm currently working on an article and I have to admit to being very impressed, even with it's current limited feature set.

As I have already said elsewhere, this version is not intended to demonstrate W8 on desktops. It is to allow devs to work on Metro apps. The focus here is on touch and getting Metro apps ready for when W8 is released. I suspect that when the real betas arrive there will be little that is truly jaw dropping as we saw with W7 on the desktop, but,as ever, I am prepared to be wrong.

I hope that they fix the start menu on the desktop, It would be nice to have a 'Metro button' as well as the old fashoned Start Menu.

Overall Metro looks quite sleek, and a (good) touch version of windows that fits in with our existing network will be a welcome addition to the tools at my disposal.

Unlike most people I like the ribbon in explorer - most screens are big enough now to cope with the added toolbar. I'm not sure on the selection of tools though.

I am wondering about the metro app store, and how we will be able to purchase/distribute programs?

    Yes...

Microsoft planning to market Windows 8 ARM in a unique way, different naming?
