Windows 8.1 Applications too Explorer bar-l Remove or block?

    Hi All,

I have a little problem with windows 8.1, I'm hoping someone has a fix for this as i cannot find anything on the net! (apart from 3rd party tools to remove the Explorer ribbon).

I am currently setting up Windows 8.1 on a pool of laptops, I am now started with GPO's etc but i cannot seem to find any with the Explorer ribbon. I do not want Students/Staff to access the "Application Tools" (added a picture here)1.jpg as you can see they have the option to "Run as administrator". This fix here would be to remove Application Tools all together.

I also have another issue with students/staff clicking on "File" and they will see "Open Command Propmt" &"open Powershell" (In the same place as above, the explorer ribbon). I have added another picture here2.jpg.

Does anyone have any tips so i can disable/remove this for staff and students?

    Thanks all!

    Hi,

No we didn't find a solution - i'm sure there is a registry key hidden somewhere to remove this but its trying to find it thats the issue. In the mean time we just installed Windows 7 Enterprise onto laptops, as we know it works 100%

Hello, We have them visible but students can't run them.

When they run CMD it says it "This has been disabled by your system administrator" See how to do this here
When they run CMD as Administrator is asks for accounts details with admin access (just make sure students are not part of local admins group )

Powershell is a little more difficult. You will need to set up software restriction policies explained here and add the powershell.exe as Disallowed.
    The path to powershell.exe is C:\Windows\System32\WindowsPowerShell\v1.0\powersh ell.exe

    Hope this helps

... Group Policy scripts will always run, regardless of your local script execution policy. Even if your execution policy is restricted Group Policy scripts will still run using a Bypass policy. The assumption is that if you have setup a Group Policy to run a script, you know what the script will do and are taking adequate steps to protect it.
