I've gotten used to using Win8 without the start menu/button - though it is annoying at times, but to be fair, other than the full screen and lack of button - there is no real usage change - you can still search for everything by typing in the start screen as opposed to the small search bar on the start menu.
My real annoyance is logging off or rebooting / powering off etc - and even more so in Server 2012!
Put it this way. If people like us find it counter intuitive or hard to use, the general public will find it worse. Teachers in school will find it worse still and the kids learning will suffer. The kids will pick it up a breeze. The lack of a start menu is an appalling oversight from MS. Not putting it anywhere near my school until they sort it out (probably when they buy out the companies making add on menus ; ) )
