Is anyone else having issues with Windows 8 deployment on a 2008 R2 WDS server? I wanted to try it out on a couple spare systems and it keeps bombing out on the installation phase on the client with the error C0000005 and Google hasn't provided much in the way of help. I didn't do anything special to it either; I just imported the WIM from a Windows 8 Enterprise ISO into the WDS server. Any ideas?

22nd March 2013, 01:58 PM #2 have you created a new unattend.xml for windows 8? or just using the windows 8 Enterprise to install without one.
also did you install the windows 8 boot image. i don't know if it makes a difference but I set ours up with a windows 7 boot and windows 8 boot images.
but I haven't come across that error, I've recently set up our WDS server to deploy windows 8 and maybe 7, but ours is server 2012

Nope, no unattended file on either the install image or WDS server itself. The boot WIM was pulled from Windows 7 though. I'll try pulling it from the Win8 Enterprise ISO. Thanks!

22nd March 2013, 03:40 PM #4 Ha, that was it! I feel like a bit of a n00b on this one. All that had to be done was to import the Windows 8 boot wim into WDS and use that. Thanks again.

Just to add to this thread that windows 7 can be installed through the windows 8 boot wim perfectly but obviously not the other way around.
