.net framework 3.5 on windows 8

    Hi,

I'm hoping someone can help because this is really starting to get to me now.

When trying to install .net framework 3.5 on my Windows 8 x32 laptop, it keeps coming up saying “Windows couldn't connect to the Internet to download necessary files. Make sure that you're connected to the Internet, and click Retry to try again.”

So I look it up and find this: Installing the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8

and try the CMD command instead but realised I can't actually find my Windows 8 disc which sucks.

So now it's telling me to point to %DRIVE&:\sources\sxs directory (looking for the ISO or disc for Windows 8) which I can't find so it won't let me do it.

Any chance anyone else has had this problem? if so, is there a way of getting round it without re-installing Windows?

    Thank you.

I had the same problem here - I think it was having problems working with the proxy for some reason.
Unfortunately, from my searching it looks like the only alternative is to use the cmd with the Windows 8 disc or ISO.

If you don't have the disc or ISO anywhere, I think you might be out of luck :/

Does it start to download and then error out? Or does it not even get that far?

Also, if you can't find your win8 disc, just download a free trial of server 2012, its basically the same architecture so should work....in theory.

Have you tried importing your proxy server settings from Internet Explorer using the command below (via the Command Prompt) and then installing the feature again?

    Code:
    netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie

Another option would be to use the SxS folder from a Windows 8 Enterprise evaluation ISO (download links below).

    x64: 9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247_X64FRE_ENTERPRISE_EVAL_EN-US-HRM_CENA_X64FREE_EN-US_DV5.iso
    x86: 9200.16384.WIN8_RTM.120725-1247_X86FRE_ENTERPRISE_EVAL_EN-US-HRM_CENA_X86FREE_EN-US_DV5.iso

Mount the ISO by double-clicking on it and then run this command from an elevated Command Prompt. Replace X with the letter of your DVD drive.

    Code:
    dism /Online /Enable-Feature /FeatureName:NetFX3 /All /Source:"X:\Sources\SxS" /LimitAccess

Have you tried installing it from the ISO (post #7)?

The 'LimitAccess' switch will prevent Windows from attempting to download the files from the Internet.

This should help regarding .NET 3.5 on Windows 8: .NET Framework 4.5 is default and .NET Framework 3.5 is optional (Windows)

By default .Net 3.5 will not install on Windows 8 behind a proxy web server. To install it, insert the Windows 8 installation disc and then open a cmd prompt with admin privaleges. Put the following command in and run:

    dism.exe /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFX3 /Source:d:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

Change the drive letter before \sources to reflect the dvd drive you are using.
