"Add features" option is unavailable in volume license versions of Windows 8

4th February 2013, 12:59 PM #4 Would be your volume one is the "N" version? I'm pretty sure the VLK we had included media player...

4th February 2013, 01:00 PM #5 MEdia player yes - media centre, no. That's a bugger, I hadn't gotten around to setting up my TV card at home yet.

If you have a non-VLK version of Pro at home, you can still get Media Center (may even still be free - I'd have to check).

If it's not still free I registered for a few so may be able to provide one or two.

4th February 2013, 01:14 PM #9 Yeah codes were free until 31st of Jan, if you didn't use 'em, you lose 'em.
Its these little gotchas that really annoy me about MS.

4th February 2013, 03:10 PM #10 Yeah, I had loads of free codes, but they wouldn't work on the VLK or TechNet versions.
From the screenshots and YouTube videos I've seen, you're not really missing much! :P

Um... but some businesses/educational institutions do use it.
Its an artificial cripple to the W8 Pro VL that seems rather pointless.
So, no, it doesn't really make sense.

4th February 2013, 04:04 PM #13 We do - media streaming server, stuff recorded off telly etc rather relies on it. 7 it is for that.

4th February 2013, 04:17 PM #14 Isn't Media Center only available on W8 Pro (but not the VLK versions)? Seems a bizarre choice if that's correct.
