I have installed Remote Desktop Services under Server 2012 in order that staff might get a feel for how Windows 8 works.
Under my admin domain profile (the one used to install Office et al) the Start screen has tiles for office and a few other desktop applications but when a standard domain user logs in they simply get the default tiles and not office.
I have added the office shortcuts to the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu" directory in the hope that this would cause the shortcuts to appear but they don't.
Am I missing something really obvious here?
It would be nice to get the Office tiles to come up for all users instead of having to tell them to search for word and then pin to start.
any help appreciated.

22nd October 2012, 02:58 PM #2 if I understand you correctly, From testing windows 8 only the users who installs the programs get tiles added on their start menu without having to pin them. all other users have to go to all apps and then pin it.
however the settings for each users start menu if I remember correctly is stored in C:\Users\<usersname>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windo ws and a file called appsFolder.itemdata-ms however copying this file into others users profiles can produce very strange results.
and we gave up on this method.

22nd October 2012, 03:07 PM #3 Yes, that is what my testing has shown me. Only the user who installed the applications gets the program tiles automatically, other users seem to need to pin them or look in all programs.

are you able to point me in the right direction?
