Metro desktop alternate view - Tip

I've just found this out (apologies if it's been mentioned before). On the Metro desktop if you push up from the bottom of the screen you will see an 'All apps' icon. press this and Metro goes away and you are left with a programs list including shortcuts to Windows system utilities (control panel, command prompt etc.) and accessories.
    Nice

This action is done with a right click for non touch users.
Those apps can be pinned to the taskbar or to the metro desktop too.

CTRL + TAB is the keyboard shortcut for the "Apps" list btw.

The UI is a waste of time on my 32 inch double screens I have for work. Yet another nail in the coffin for this MS excuse of an OS which only offers around 20% increase in performance. Who ever decided this UI ( which is fine on a phone ) should be OK for a desktop is a complete moron who hopefully will be sacked.

Because any app written for Metro (sorry Microsoft, I think you will be stuck with this one, and it's easier to type than modern-ui!) will work on Windows 8 phones, tablets and desktops. W8 may not be what many expecting this time around, but be sure that Microsoft will be learning lots of lessons for either W8 SP1 and W9. And be prepared to buy a desktop trackpad!

Open source to the rescue. The Register have pointed out a piece of software called 'Classic Shell' that can give you back various versions of the 'old' windows shell.

    Welcome to Classic Shell
