Print Spooler stopping
I have a Windows 7 desktop pc with a locally attached printer, and 2 network printers.
The print spooler stops everytime a user tries to print, and sometimes when Windows starts.
Does anyone have any idea why this is and how to resolve it.
If you are running 64 bit windows, make sure you have the correct 64 bit driver for the printer installed. If you have any mismatched 32 bit / 64 bit drivers it tends to crash the spooler (speaking from experience here!)
What are the printer models involved?
This sounds like an issue with the Printer Drivers.
What are the printers that are installed & the drivers that they are using?
The best thing I have found to do is reinstall the printers.
Go into Devices and Printers & remove the Printer & Drivers.
If the Drivers won't uninstall from the machine - go into the Print Management tool (search for this from the start menu) & then remove them from there.
Sometimes I have found I need to reboot the machine a few times and restart the print spooler to remove them completely.
Once all that has been done, re-install the local printer(s) first and make sure that works (and subsequently isn't the cause of the issue)
Then install each of the network printers separately again to make sure that one of those isn't the fault.
If any of them do cause the problem, check the drivers for the printers are the latest versions for the OS you're using.
Let us know how you get on :D Good Luck
Check print driver isolation, that's usually a killer in 7/2008.
Isolation is there to prevent a fault in one driver taking out the spooler service.
I agree its a driver problem. If the above does not work. Try using a different driver say if you are using a pcl5 try a pcl6.
