Printer Driver Deploys But Printer Is Not Visible

We are making progress with our Windows 7 deployment but we have hit an obstacle: The print drivers install but no printer is visible [except for Fax!]

Has anyone cured this?

Seems like we are almost at the end of our deployment problems. If we can cure this I think that we may have cracked it.

How are you deploying the printer?
GPP user preferences is by far the simplest and seems to work well.

Yes we are using GPP:

User Configuration/Preferences/Control Panel Settings/Printers

I dont have a GPP mmc to hand but does the common tab have the checkbox "Run in users context" and if so what is it set to?

Yes it does have that check box and it is currnly not ticked. I will change the setting and have another go.

Ahh I couldnt remember but I am pretty sure checking that will fix the issue.

We have just tried it. It didn't work but I fear we may have been too hasty. I am going to wait before I say that this approach has failed. We will try again shortly.

PS: We did apply GPUpdate /force at the server and we did restart the workstation.

Hmmm what model is the printer? is it hp....
FYI gpupdate /force should be applied on the workstation not the server.

It is an HP 4515n.

Are there any errors in the event log? certain hp supplied drivers did have issues.

Nothing in event log. We have managed to deploy another network printer so we can deploy printers with the right Windows 7 driver. The problem we have now is identifying a driver for this printer that works [the HP universal driver does not work. At least not for us]

The Microsoft Catalog does not find the driver either.

Does anyone esle use an HP 4515n on Windows 7 Pro with a named HP driver for that printer? [Not the universal driver]

Also you may require loopback processing turned on if you want it to take the room that the user is in for the printer rather than assigning the users printers directly as its no good the student in room 1 printing to the printer in 34 ;)
