Major part of Windows 7 media Centre broken
In the past few weeks I have started to suffer from extream picture pixellation and noise when watching BBC HD via my media center PC. It seems like I'm not the only one either! Follow this thread (if you have the time) BBC HD corrupts rhythmically after 30 secs - The Green Button
What has happended is that teh BBC have changed their bitrate to allow more space for ITV\C4 HD it appears. As the changes have been in line with 'standards' it does not affect dedicated hardware based solutions such as freesat boxes, but PC based media centers using software codecs are stuffed unless you hack in a thid pary codec into media center as it appears Microsofts h264 codec is not quite standards complient. There is also talk of it being soley an ATI driver problem, but it does look as if Nvidia cards are effected too, rulign this out. There are a few workarounds listed on that thread, and the start watching, stop, start again worked for me last night, but not for everybody. Could be messy unless Microsoft can get a patch out with a better codec in time!
