Permissions on new folders

I have a shared folder for resources that is accessible to everyone.

the permissions are set so staff can read/write/modify all files and folders in this share and students can only read

the problem is, when new folders are created, the security groups are not being inherited from the parent folder.
i have tried ticking "replace all child object permissions with inheritable permissions from this object" on the selected security groups and it enforces on all current child files/folders but not on any new ones

Its driving me crazy! any ideas?

Have you set the "include inheritable permissions from this objects parent" part? Also did you take ownership of the folder before changing it?

As i've put the permissions on the share itself would ticking "include inheritable permissions from this objects parent" do anything? Or do you mean ticking this option on the newly created folders?

I haven't taken permission no, i'll try doing that and see what happens.

You need to tick Inherit from Parent on each new folder. You can push down from above so it would happen automatically but it's fairly destructive as it overwrites all permissions.

Are the Permissions are set for This Folder, Sub-Folders and Files where applicable?

Thanks for your reply sonofsanta. The only problem with that is, everytime a staff member creates a new folder in the share, i'll have to hunt it down and add tick inherit from parent. Its impractical and there must be a way to automate the process? I don’t mind manually doing it for the ones that have currently been created and not picking up the security settings but for every future created folder, I want it to pick up the right groups.

Yeh davit2005. From the top level of the shared folder, permissions are set for this folder, sub-folder and files in advanced.
