Mouse/Cursor jumping when runnign Windows 7

I've had a number of uses now reporting issues with the mouse pointer and/or cursor randomly jumping away from where they are working since upgrading to Windows 7.

It appears there a 2 models of machine mainly affected:- HP 6735S, and Samsung N210

The Windows install on the machines is from a standard image used across all school PC's with just the drivers added, and as far as possible, the latest Windows 7 drivers have been downloaded and installed on the PCs

Has anyone else suffered a similar issue, and what was the resolution?

I have it on my machine, but only when the VMware Vshpere client is open. I asume your users dont use this, but mabe its some other software causing it?

I've seen this too in some cases. Many notebooks allow you to lock the mouse pad, then plug in a USB mouse. This cures the problem, but I accept using a USB mouse isn't always suitable.

Install the trackpad software for those models and then use it to control the automatic disabling of the trackpad when typing. (a moment after you stop typing the trackpad reactivates)

The details vary from vendor to vendor. We developed an optimal setting for our configuration and pushed the settings out via GPP. Everybody was very happy.

It may be this: Windows 7 Gotchas/Tips/FYI (just happen to have been looking at that thread this morning as I redo my GPOs ready, I don't have an encyclopaedic record of all Edugeek posts)

Disable multitouch features for the track pad. that will cure most problems. (usualy Synaptec Pointing Device in the task tray)
