    Are you getting any errors in the event log? I could see the exact dll that was causing the spooler to crash and from this could tell which driver was the cause!

    Had a look in the event logs and the .dll that is causing the problem appears to be one for bidirectional - BUT this is switched off on the printers and always has been...

    I had a similar problem with most of our HP printers which was due to the print server having invalid registry keys. The problem was when we migrated our printers from 32bit server to a 64bit server, using the Microsoft Printbrm.exe tool. The invalid key was when SourceDir key had a invalid name.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Printers\W08-1\CopyFiles\BIDI]
    "SourceDir"=\\\\OLDSERVER\\print$\\BIDI
    How we solved the problem was to recreate the printerís and call it a different name and share name then remove the old printer and all worked again.

    Another fix which also fixed a crashed spooler, was to change the Previous Names key to hex(7):00,00.

    Code:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\Windows NT 86\Drivers\Version-3\HP Universal Printing PCL 6]
    "Previous Names"=hex(7):00,00

    I know this is for windows 7 clients however you used to with the Server 2003 resource kit download get the Cleanspl.exe that you could use to reset all the things as outlined in @PeteLong 's post ( as far as I am aware, could be wrong )

    Link to the 2003 resource kit download : Download Windows Server 2003 Resource Kit Tools from Official Microsoft Download Center

    Just wanted to know if you could get the 2008 resource kit download ( assuming it was done )

    If not can you use the Cleanspl.exe for windows 7 or will it not work due to registry keys etc possibly being in different places etc ??

    edit - apparently you get not for this version error message if you try to use cleanspl on windows 7 etc

    Missing quite a bit in comparison to @PeteLong's guide but as per below
