Windows 7 DVD Drive Error Message when double clicking a music CD

    Windows 7 Laptop ASUS K52F
    Music CD in DVD Drive:
When I double click on the DVD drive it gives an error message:
"This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Please install a program or, if one is already installed, create an association in the default program control panel."

If I insert a data CD in the drive I can double click it. No error message. It opens the CD contents fine.

I have created association for music files in the CD as Windows Media Player. It does not help. Real player is installed in the laptop.

    It is puzzling me.

Something has mangled the AUDIOFS handling.

Please note: If you use this information to modify your registry and it breaks your install of Windows, I did not force you to use it and I'm warning you that messing about with the registry can easily lead to a broken Windows install.

Probably these entries in the registry:

Note also that the entries below are from an x64 system.

    Code:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\audiocd
        BaseClass REG_SZ Drive
        FriendlyTypeName REG_SZ @shell32.dll,-10144
        (Default) REG_SZ AudioCD
        EditFlags REG_BINARY 02001000

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\audiocd\DefaultIcon
        (Default) REG_EXPAND_SZ %SystemRoot%\system32\shell32.dll,40

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\audiocd\shell
        (Default) REG_SZ Play

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\audiocd\shell\play
        (Default) REG_SZ &Play
        MUIVerb REG_EXPAND_SZ @%SystemRoot%\system32\unregmp2.exe,-9991

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\audiocd\shell\play\command
        (Default) REG_EXPAND_SZ "%ProgramFiles(x86)%\Windows Media Player\wmplayer.exe" /prefetch:3 /device:AudioCD "%L"

I've attached the text output as a text file because the code quoted above has been modified by the @ thing.
    Attached Files Attached Files
