Windows 7 Explorer for Young Children
Firstly apologises if this is in the wrong place but I wasn't sure what section this would come under.
We are running Windows 7 across the site having installed a new network over the summer, I have just been asked by our EYFS department whether they could have an explorer open at logon that shows large icons instead of going through the start menu. We used to have RM CC3 here so I guess I am looking for something like the RM Explorer 2 program that could be started at logon. Does anyone use an equivalent program to do this?
Or is there another way to achieve this? I had thought about putting the Icons on the Desktop and make them large Icons but I just wondered if there was a simple app out there that did this.

We do as you already suggested, set a different desktop for the users that is redirected and put on the icons they need. You could then use a GPO to increase font or icon size using accessibility features

to increase icon size
1. click on the desktop
2. press shift
3. use mouse scroll wheel up and down to get the right size.
dunno about the fonts

As already mentioned above, vanilla Windows networks use a tool called Folder Redirection and this has been available ever since Windows 2000 Server in Active Directory. There are more options now in Windows Server 2008 R2 (recommended with Windows 7 workstations), but it is pretty much the same.

An explorer window isn't required at startup. Shortcuts are visible on the desktop itself, just as you would on your home PC for example.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'll just go down the Icons on the desktop route.
