    Printers not working

I have some new Canon IP4850 printers which are working fine on windows XP, however after installing it on Windows 7 it just doesnt work! Windows 7 installs the drivers for the printer (using the cd) and then lists it in devices and printers however if i test out a print it nothing comes out - sometimes if im lucky i get an error about it not being able to communicate with the printer...

Print spooler service is running, restarted it makes no difference

I have the same problem on another brother printer which was working fine under XP but not in Win 7. Driving me crazy! I might be missing something simple here...

Sounds like a driver problem Use the latest drivers on the manufacturers website and see if it works.

Tried it, the printer started working for around 10 mins and was printing fine. The printer is not listed in device manager, it comes up as usb printing. Oh now im missing good old XP

is it actually connected via USB?
might be that the port is being reset at the time of install? or a user is changing the properties.
i wouldnt expect it to appear in the system device manger but should appear in the printers section from control panel.

If you are using a local/TCP/IP port to print to it have you got conflicting ports IE one port pointing to two printers or visa versa as ive has this cause oddities

Its connected via USB, i would have expected to see it under "Printers" but there is nothing like that in device manager... im going to disable some CC4 components and see if that helps

Printers wont appear in device manager: the ports will IE USB LPT1 etc.

if its installed correctly should be under Control Panel -> printers and hardware.

Again I have reinstalled the printer on a test workstation, installed the latest drivers from the canon website, it printed out on the first try, restarted the workstation and i can no longer print. Printer is listed as still installed etc but no communication with the printer.

We are running Windows 7 on RM CC4... could one of the RM components be causing the problem?

    ------ EDIT -------

It seems as though when it stops working if i change the print processor in the printer properties it starts to work, then after a while it will stop working again... mmm

Is there anyway that the print processor for the printer can be automatically changed on startup?

It looks like that is the only way the printer will work

We had this problem with some Brother printers when we switched to Windows 7. From what i've read above I gathered that the printers are connected locally via USB? Try disabling/uninstalling the device driver whilst the printer is plugged in. Then remove the printer and plug it into a different port - seemed to work for us. Not exactly sure what the problem actually was but hey, if it works, leave it be.

Had no luck with this problem, printers work only when the print processor is changed but when the user logs off or the computer is rebooted the settings are reset back to default.
