    BGinfo not setting wallpaper on first logon

    Hi,

    I am using GFinfo. When a user firsts logs in and the profile is created BGinfo doesnt work. After that it works fine.

    Does anyone know how to fix this please?

    Thanks

    We are seeing the same thing for our staff users only. Haven't figured it out yet.

    What I can say is that we have a Parent/Child domain network. Our staff are in the Parent domain while our students and all workstations are in the child domain.

    I am currently working on the premise that this holds the answer somehow.

    You could add BGInfo to startup in the registry, that'll fix it, but if you have separate BGInfo files for staff/pupils then it won't be that good of a solution.

    EDIT: Just been searching this up some more, and found this other thread on EduGeek, Windows 7 Bginfo background issue.
    Which also has a link to this; http://mockbox.net/configmgr-sccm/17...-silently.html, which should hopefully resolve your problems.

    I learned recently that BGInfo just doesn't work on Windows 7 without some serious modding/coding, so I gave up with it.

    On an XP network, I've always controlled wallpapers with BGInfo run from the logon script.

    Desktop backgrounds deployed by reg entries dont seem to work on first logon. Not sure why, but after first logon there are no issues.

    Could be something to do with profile creation and at what point the user logon registry entries are processed / what point the users profile is created.

    What happens if you refresh the desktop after the user logs in for the first time? Either using DesktopRefresh.exe or the following...

    Code:
    rundll32.exe user32.dll,UpdatePerUserSystemParameters

    Rather than using bginfo why dont you reg hack using Client Side Prefrences, it stops our kids changing the background due to the Group Policy Refreshes that i impose. Windows 7 Gotchas/Tips/FYI <- thats all we impose and does the trick

    @FN-GM. Did you have any luck with the refreshing the desktop as per my post above?

    @ZeroHour suggested the same solution in this thread from 2010.

    I had the same problem. Ended up adding registry keys to set the background. No user can change the background without editing the registry. BGInfo loads fine on the system I have set up. Open notepad and paste the below. You will need to edit the location of the Wallpaper in the registry file. Save it as a registry file. It also disables the ability to change windows sounds. This should work for Windows 7 Home.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies]

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
    "NoChangingWallpaper"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer]
    "NoDriveTypeAutoRun"=dword:000000ff
    "TaskbarNoNotification"=dword:00000001
    "NoCDBurning"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\System]
    "Wallpaper"="C:\\Windows\\Web\\Wallpaper\\Windows\ \blue.jpg"
    "WallpaperStyle"="0"

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Wind ows\Personalization]
    "NoChangingSoundScheme"=dword:00000001

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\ActiveDesktop]
    "NoChangingWallpaper"="1"

    Not tried yet to be honest. Its gone on a back burner for a few days. I will probably look at it again at the end of the week.

    Thanks

    Just to bring up an old thread, DesktopRefresh.exe worked perfectly for me! Thanks!

    Also found anger way myself. If you create a theme and in group policy you can make this the default theme for first login. That seemed to fix it
