    Win7 Pro on Netbooks

I've buying some netbooks and asked for a price to upgrade them to Win7 Pro as well.
One supplier has recommended not doing this and sticking with what comes with the machine.

Comments please from people using Win7 on netbooks

    regards

    Simon

The majority of netbooks come pre-install with Windows 7, however Windows 7 Pro is required to join a domain. Windows 7 Home will not join a domain, but only a workgroup.

What do the netbooks currently come pre-installed with?

A lot of netbooks that are win 7 have win 7 starter edition on them but I've not had any problem with win 7 pro on the netbooks I've tried it with. Even get aero on my MSI wind

That's why I'm asking about Win7 Pro in case I need that facility.

What do the netbooks currently come pre-installed with?
Well most seem to come with something called Win7 Starter and even Mr MS seems to imply that it'll run faster than "normal" Win7.

There's no reason why Win7 Pro won't run on any netbook, however 2GB of memory is recommended. Many netbooks come with 1GB of memory only.

System requirements for 7 Starter and 7 Pro are the same - it is the same base OS. I have Windows 7 running on some old laptops even that have a single core M processor and 512 MB RAM (just to see how well it runs) and it actually runs better than when it had XP on it.

We run our new netbooks we are testing with 7 pro. The only thing that gets turned off is Aero Peek and those additional features.

We're running windows 7 (pro or enterprise, not sure exactly which) on about 100 netbooks. They run well. The boot-up speed of windows 7 is much better than xp, which is great for portable devices. Wifi is also more reliable. You really want 1 gig of memory, but then I would say you want that for xp these days anyway.

I've found anything younger than 3 years works better with 7 provided you get your deployment right and have drivers etc ready.

Yeap, Windows 7 is good on Atom based stuff, 1GB of RAM at least and they perform better than Pentium M chips, boot nice and quick and as Chris above said work way better with Wireless.

We run Win 7 Pro on our new Samsung N130 netbooks and it seems absolutely fine - they are on the domain etc

We have Win 7 Pro installed on 30 Samsung N145+ netbooks - all with 2GB RAM. Works fine - all on the domain.

Did you get them with 2GB or did you/can you add in another 1GB?

All came with 1GB installed, there's only one slot so we replaced the 1GB with a 2GB RAM stick.
