    Rename a remote computer

I issued a computer today and I forgot to rename it before I did so.

Is there a way I can remotely rename it, using psexec or something ?

create a vbscript that will rename a local computer and then use win32_process to execute said vbscript on the remote computer ( the vbscript will have to be somewhere where computers can access it ie sysvol or the likes )

maybe use psexec to execute said vbscript or what ever script you want to do the task

Never tested wmi on windows 7 so not sure of implications or if it will work etc - hopefully should be the same

Assuming it's a domain member you can just use netdom:

    Code:
    netdom /renamecomputer oldcomputername /newname:newcomputername /userD:domain\username /passwordD:ReallySecret /force /reboot

I think that netdom isn't installed on a machine by default (it's part of RSAT) but I'm pretty sure it works (we use it locally for renaming the machines and I know the help for the command shows that you can use it remotely)
