Here's the problem;
User plugs in a USB device (for example, Lego Mindstorm NXT Brick); Windows 7 goes off and looks for device drivers from Windows Update even though the drivers are installed locally. It does eventually load locally, but takes an age. Even if you tell it to 'Skip Obtaining Device Driver from Windows Update' it still seems to take a long time.
Looked into a GPO to change it's behaviour, and found that this one:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communication Setttings > Turn Off Windows Update Device Driver Searching.
But it hasnt made any difference. In fact, doesn't appear to work at all.
Anybody got any ideas?
Cheers

19th May 2010, 01:55 PM #2 There is a setting for "Where to search for Drivers" and i believe one of the options is "Search windows update last".
Ill try find the policy for you.

Options allowed are
Search Windows Update First
Search Windows Update Last
Never Search Windows Update
