Missing VGA Drivers for Win7 -problem?
I've been playing around with Win 7 on student machines for a while, testing the various bits etc.
I have around 120 old RM One machines that support Win 7, but VGA drivers aren't available for the onboard Graphics, yet The Audio, chipset and everything else are...
The standard windows driver seems to be running OK.
Can you see it being a problem to run Win7 on these machines without the correct VGA drivers? Obviously Aero is a no no anyway due to the age of the machine.

No this will not cause a problem in most cases but will limit the resolutions available to you and also put a little more load on the CPU as it will not be able to offload anything at all to the GPU. I would suggest installing the XP or Vista drivers as these should work fine (have done it several times) and will give you full access to all the supported resolutions along with proper identification of monitors and slightly lower CPU usage in general.

Out of interest, what is the graphic chipset?

Its an ASUS board with a VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP.
The mobo isn't listed on the ASUS website as it's a rebranded one for RM.

Try the downloads tab on this page and select XP as the OS ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
The XP drivers should work and it is the same family so the driver is likely to be the right one, I think that I even have a bunch of Vista machines running the XP driver for this card at one of my schools as it sounds familiar. You may need to extract the .inf and install it manually through device manager though as setup packages usually get messy on later OS versions.
You should also be able to get them from here at Microsoft http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/...me%20Pro%20IGp
if the link does not work just go to http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/v7/site/Home.aspx and search for "VIA/S3G UniChrome Pro IGP", there are even 64bit ones.

thanks for that, I'll have a play.
Just spent the last 2 hours trying top sort the start menu redirection out. Seems to be working, but when I change the start menu folder on the server, I want the user's menu to change too.. like in XP. But this isn't the case in 7. User needs to log off and on before the menu is changed. - It's all good fun!
