The folder itself needs the .v2 extension, but the user profile location settings for the users don't need .v2, they should just be \\server\share\userprofile.man (which should be your XP profile path).

.Man for XP is easy. We have them setup here at the moment.

Should be simple to lock down locally?

Ah I see. Yeah we are going fully straight to Windows7 for students so wont be running XP at the same time.

Cant you set in GPO '' Set Roaming Profile Path for all user logging onto this computer'' Or ''Only allow Local user profiles'' in the gpo'

where are they dont remember those settings the allow local only could be damned handy for staff laptops esp if it was a user policy and could be filtered but i suppose that would mean redirection diddnt work

roaming profile path is presumably a pc policy and would then mean any user be it admin/staff/student got the same policy as i think that may be one ive been fiddling with

Really confused to be honest. I have made a roaming profile, but when I login to windows 7 it says that this is a temperary session, even though I have made one a folder called susan.MAN.v2.

Just started looking at this - Is it possible to have a mixed environment with XP and WIN 7 where staff have roaming profiles? Is it better to ditch roaming profiles and just have everything redirected? Will that work when they log into XP machines?
