Does anybody know how to remove it?
It's not enabled/shown on the desktop when we make our mandatory profile, yet the second you log in, it appears on the desktop. Although double clicking it does not open it, I'ld rather that it was not there at all.
Thanks in advance
Ed

We had this problem because we had force classic start menus enabled in GPO for our XP clients.

Brilliant find, for something so completely unrelated to the issue it has fixed many of my ailing problems, just as the user appdata folder not hiding, or the task tray not hiding.
Thankyou, you've saved me such a headache

This is our issue too.. What are the draw backs to switching? To disabled the Force classic start menu?
Thanks,
Jason

9th February 2010, 04:01 PM #8 have found the reg key relating to the desktop control pannel icon, not sure if its been mentioned elsewhere, ive not seen it when searching today and dug around and found key for myself...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace\{5399E694-6CE5-4D6C-8FCE-1D8870FDCBA0}]
Deleting this folder and the reg key it contians, refresh desktop and control pannel has gone.
Hope it helps someone
