Hi there,
Just wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction. I have just installed our first windows 7 machine on a windows 2003 domain. So far so good. Just a quick question.
When you try and log into the machine the user is presented with the last used to log into the computer and they just need the password. I changed this on our xp machines in the computer section of the group policy. How do i go about doing a similar thing on win 7 (and vista for that matter) machines.
I have had a little look around to see if there are any adm templates i need to update but so far i cannot see anything?
Anyone any advice?
Thanks
If you install the remote administrator tools on a Vista or Windows 7 station you will be able to manage GPO's.

Do you mean, you are wanting to do away with the last "show last user logged in" at the log in screen?
I will give that a try now.
Thanks for the quick response
Yes Tim,
I'm trying to get it so that the users have to enter their username and password like XP
It would be nice to have it like that. I dont know if that can be done though. I have just looked on my test 2008 R2 machine which is running in a 2008 R2 environment under Comp Conf >> Windows Settings >> security settings >> local policies >> security but cannot find anything in there. The only thing i have managed to find is "do not display last username" which is the same as a 2003 environment.
Hi Tim,
Ive installed the RSAT tool and managed to find the setting that you are talking about. That's what I am after.
Unfortunately i have changed the setting not to display the previous user but it is still showing up. Ive rebooted the box several time to apply the policy (i will try gpupdate now) to see if that removes the previous user.
