    Just bought a book....

As we take on a new School Agreement (thanks Dan @ WStore) that will include Windows 2007 a new book 'Windows 2007 Resource Kit' arrived on my desk this afternoon.

1708 pages of reading. My main interest firstly being the deployment stuff. Our LEA doesn't have a 2008 domain so I'm not going to deploy for a while because from what I understand server 2003R2 will not give me enough granular GPO control of the Windows 7 installation. (Please correct me if I am wrong).

I think that is one of the most annoying things about being an LEA controlled school - the funding is simply not there to upgrade the domain controllers. Most (if not all) other schools have 2003 CALS - so if the LEA upgraded their DCs to 2008 then they would have to purchase CALS to allow the schools to connect (again correct me if I am wrong).

Shame that really as it will stop schools like myself pushing Windows 2007 onto the desktop.

Anyone's opinions on this are welcome.

    Gareth

    Hi JetPlane -

No I haven't looked that much into it. I'm sure the LEA know all of this already. I'm just annoyed that we cannot move until the LEA upgrade their central domain controllers.

We are deploying and using Windows 7 with a Server 2008 domain (not R2 domain)

To access the more granular GPO's just use the GP Management Console from a Windows 7 client.

Whoops - I see where I did this.

Bit picky isn't it. Does it really matter? Everyone else knew what I was talking about.
