How good is the "upgrade" from xp ? Does it just check your XP is ok then basically delete it install windows 7 or does it try other stuff which I am never keen on?
Are you saying the upgrade version purchased through this offer allowed you to do that?
Yup . . (NO see edit)
and . . . .
It appears that M$ are not that stupid after all.
After activating (or so i thought) i installed some software and needed to restart. When it restarts the activation window comes up again saying that the product key entered is the default product key for windows 7 and cant be activated.
so looks like im back to square 1 and need to speak to M$ again
edit: AND . . . the key that i originally received wont activate because "" The Software Licensing Service determined that this specified product key can only be used for upgrading, not for clean installations""

CHR1S: Yeh thats fine to post its no worse then what you could do with XP cd's and its actually really useful to know as I would prefer one CD to select the edition then a cd per edition, cheers
I have paid this morning, received my confirmation but too have not received the download link. My order states the fact I have paid.
I to have gone for 7 Pro 64bit.
But it looks like the serial numbers only work if your upgrading. I wanted to do a clean install. Trying a few things now.
The product.ini is nothing new unfortunatly. Just done some googleing and these serials are the ones that the install uses if you do not supply a product key. These cant be activated

I think you can only upgrade form vista (but i may be wrong)
I've seen a suggestion that installing W7 without a key and then using the install media to perform an upgrade will trick w7 into thinking it was an upgrade an therefore work and activate with the upgrade serial.
