That's because the 64 bit ones are wider than 32 bit so you can't get as many in the pipe at the same time or something like that :-)

Can somebody post a MVLS link directly to the Enterprise x64 download? I still don't get it why I only have the Professional version. We have an active SA and Vista Enterprise etc is posted. Maybe can I download the Enterprise from MLVS if I have a direct link. Thanks!

8th August 2009, 09:40 AM #20 We were intending to deploy Ultimate but we only seem to have Pro on our VLSC list.
Is Ultimate not being provided under School Agreements?

8th August 2009, 11:00 AM #21 Enterprise is the VL version. It's the same as ultimate but volume license only

Anyone having trouble activating their KMS key?
I'm quite the KMS newbie, just set it up yesterday actually, and keep getting an invalid key error when I try to activate our KMS key with the MS Licensing Center. Do I need to get a MAK key, and activate that, or should the KMS key work?
About the only thing I've done to the KMS server is run the installer and the KB update. I then tried to activate our KMS key, and nothing! So, any help would be appreciated.

8th August 2009, 06:51 PM #23 What OS is your KMS server on?
I think for you to activate it then it needs to be either Windows 7 or 2008 R2 for those keys to activate - unless MS plan to issue an update to the current KMS Servers to accept the new keys

It's on a 2003 SP2 x64 box. I tried to install it on a 2008 SP2 x64 server, and kept getting an "insufficient space" error, which kind of befuddled me.
I wonder, how are you supposed to activate Win7 or 2008 R2, which isn't out yet, with KMS keys, if you're supposed to install KMS on one of those two systems?

8th August 2009, 07:53 PM #25 Win 7 should be able to act as a KMS Server for Windows 7 machines only - same as Vista could be a KMS for KMS A keys (aka Vista)
Not sure if you can have multiple KMS Servers though...
Windows 2008 R2 is due out next week IIRC, so I'll just let Win7 run on grace until then
UPDATE
just posted here on an update for KMS Servers to support the new KMS Keys..

It would be nice if they did, but I don't see that happening any time soon.
However, the downloads speeds through the alternate Akamai servers were MUCH better compared to Microsoft's own File Transfer Manager program.

It's not in the "Windows" section on the download page. It's under the "Software Assurance" section, at least on mine. I was wondering why I had Vista Enterprise and no Win7 Enterprise as well.

They have hidden it really good... Thanks a lot for the tip! Downloading it now.

Have you watched the Win7 2008R2 Product Activation Technet Webcast?
Headphones and several cans of RedBull required!
I can't say that I'm impressed.
The whole KMS/MAK debacle is why so many people never bothered to take the jump to Vista!
Win7 and 2008R2 is not going to be any easier and Office is going to use it as well.
You can understand that piracy is a major concern and loss of revenue for M$ but will the complexities of KMS and MAK activation just keep admins clinging onto XP for even longer?
Me thinks it will.
At least M$ seem to have accepted that the one or the other KMS or MAK rule would never work, at least now we can have a mix and match of KMS and MAK without a load of hassle from them!
Your new R2 and Win7 KMS keys only work on specifically Patched 2003 2008SP1 KMS Servers.
You will have to wait until after the 19th August for KMS V1.2 before using the new keys.
I have found this blog useful whilst getting ready for D-Day, Windows 7 Team Blog - The Windows Blog

Fantastic, thank you.
I'm not a fan of KMS activation either, especially as there's no official GUI to manage it, which seems very unwindows like.
