16th July 2009, 12:37 PM #17 Ebuyer still won't take orders as they don't have stock, although they have upped their price by a penny to the round £50! Amazon are no longer listed on MS's site and Tesco Direct have been added, although it is still available on Amazon but they want £75 for Premium.

That's the post-offer but still pre-order price; guess they've sold all their "offer price" allocation. I think Tesco was on the MS list last night but £50 rather than £45.

a) desire to not be running an 8-year-old OS which has been superseded at least once (twice if you're feeling generous)
b) a desire to get the product for £45/50 and not several hundred

I always find our old Knoppix live cd works best to restore stuff.
If you goto My Computer in the ubuntu menus and try to access the drive it will give you the code you need to type in in the dialog box, there is no need to search for it, just add sudo in front and you have mounted the drive

I remember some pop up with some code example that did not work on a couple machines but did on others. The issue with that though is the pop up itself that appears. It was not able to be copied and pasted so i would sit there trying to work out if there was meant to be a space here and there or was it just the default gap between the brackets etc... too awkward. Just let me copy and paste it!!!!!!!!

Wish Linux had better support for gaming. I think the whole movement towards it would speed up incredibly if games ran better on this OS.
Have run Wow in the past and other games and done this on Cedega and on the free WINE but it is nothing like as easy as running a game on Windows. An average family will have a at least one person that will want to play games. Ubuntu has got so damned easy to set up and use over the last year or two but on Linux in general gaming is poor. Even when the games do run they run with bad fps much of the time or with other glitches.
Windows 7 does look exciting though and i do want to play with it. Could not stomach Vista and still work mainly on XP at the min.
Ubuntu with all the eye candy addons can look amazing though. For a while i used it for my main PC.
Windows 7 for me though i think for a while!

Amazon said that sales of Windows 7 in the first eight hours it was available outstripped those of Windows Vista's entire 17 week pre-order period.
What a surprise almost everyone has a PC that will run Vista/Windows 7 now but when Vista came out very few people had the hardware to run it so why would they buy it.
Ordered mine from 'ahem' (says quietly) PC World as well
