Bring Back the Beta
I do like a number of the improvements and fixes that have been included into the RC but have to say that the speed has definitely gone down hill from the beta. The test box that I have running it is slower running the W7 RC than it is with Vista. It may just be specific to the system and to do with drivers or something but it is not encouraging. I even get mouse stalls where the mouse stops moving for short periods of time when the system is doing something challanging - like changing to a resize cursor at the edge of a window
. I had none of these issues with the original beta so I hope that this kind of nonscence is ironed out before release or at least only affects a very few machines.
The system if kind of old but should cope, its lowst rateing is a 3 so I kind of expect more from it. I do like the maths entry program though, that looks very useful for entering formulas and the like.

8th May 2009, 03:04 PM #2 Faster - but then I have gone from the 32bit beta to 64bit RC so I'd expect it to be really! So far all good, just needed to download a dev build of Chrome to get it running but it may be obsolete for me anyway as IE8 64bit seems very quick and so far very stable too.

8th May 2009, 03:42 PM #4 I've noticed great speed improvements. For me, build 7057 was fast, 7068 was slower and the RC is back up to speed. After trying the 32bit Rc I have reinstalled to 64bit and all in all I'm very happy with the speeds. I very much doubt this laptop will see XP again

Installed win7, adobe Cs3, Office 2007, and McAfee all within an hour!
Imaging took about an hour to do too!
One thing I did find was that in WDS you can only have 1 capture image at a time
I currently have a Win2k8 Capture and Created a Win7 one, however the Win7 one would not show until i disabled the Win2k8 one!
Deployment took about 20-30 mins!

I went from x64 7000 to x64 7100, and certain aspects seem slower to me, like booting up and longer load times after logging in.

8th May 2009, 07:09 PM #7 Faster here too. It was a bit sluggish when I first installed due to the indexing service catching up. Once I reduced its scope it's been super fast all the way!

So far running the RC has been pretty good. Had a couple of issues with WinDVD 9 not installing properly or running, but doing a compatibility option got it to play dvds properly.
Powerdvd 9 doesn't seem to run full stop though.
Playing Half Life 2 Episode 2 and Fallout 3 on W7 and they both run as well as they did on XP
