I hope he does rewrite FMS from scratch... or at elast get it to a point where FMS installs the same way on 2 different PCs

Kiran kindly pointed me to this page.
I don't think we've looked at Win 7 yet - I think we'll wait until MS makes it completely compatible with its own tools before we try it out. Don't think there should be too much of a problem though other than yet another huge test matrix.
Win 7 does look good though.
What do you mean when you say FMS doesn't install the same twice??

Personally, I'd like to see FMS become part of SIMS.net Then it'd all just be down to a single username/password, and whatever your permissions are...
But I'm quite patient, so don't expect miracles.

As am I, did you get to do anything in it, like pull up the info for a staff/student?

Install went fine. Only issue was that it couldn't find the S: drive, so had to put \\server\simsarea\sims in instead. And manually create the connect.ini file.

Bizarre that it works on some. I've tried it on two different installs and I get the same problem every time.
This is with the 32bit version of 7 and the November release of Sims.

64bit Windows 7, Nov release of SIMS (7.112) + patches etc...

It's worth a try on the 64bit version..... I've got it downloading now to play with over Lunch. I'm skeptical that it would make a difference but hey!

er ok... it works fine first time on Windows 7 64bit.. Bizarre.

Hmm - will try 64bit myself later
Thats a nice oddity usually its the otherway round...

Yeah, colour me confused. Sims installs itself in the x86 program files, so it's not installing anything different. The only thing different during install is that it fails installing the 16bit stuff (Because 64bit doesn't support 16 bit apps) But I didn't think the main app touched that anyway.
27th January 2009, 02:38 PM #44
What is the 16Bit stuff used for anyway?

I'm not really sure, I don't get nitty gritty with Sims (Network manager here tends to deal with Sims)
Off the top of my head, I'd say things like Nova T4
