IE10 hanging downloading file from intranet

We have a local intranet (ASP hosted on IIS Server 2003) which is basically a repository of documents with hyperlinks. This is well used by staff and is not a problem with Xp/Windows 7 clients until you get to those with IE10.

On IE10 when someone clicks to open the file (ie the link is something line http://server/path/file.doc) it takes about 3-4 minutes to open the file (and its abpout 40kb!) and the yellow information bar at the bottom simply says 'Downloading from site..."

This is only happening on IE10, and I've checked our policies and preferences but theres hardly any new policy settings that only relate to IE10, and nothing that I can see that would lock up like this. Bizarrely the normal internet site access seems to be fine!

I wonder if it isn't waiting on antivirus or something. Any goofy add-ons installed?

Maybe something to do with proxy settings as well. Do you have your intranet sites in the exclusion list? Maybe this didn't get set as IE10 would have needed a new policy.

After much tinkering it seems to be something with the network settings. When we run the following command and reboot it is 100% better:

Netsh interface tcp set global autotuning=disabled

Also disabling the Remote differential compression feature helps as well.

That is odd, I had to do the same thing to resolve an issue with 7/8 clients accessing shares on a 2003 Server install. As far as I understood it only afflicted SMB connections.
