This is normal. It happens to me, too, and what you've entered will have passed through successfully.

but the value it changes them to is how I had it set up originally, and after testing it still makes a hash of things.

Trying again with moving the AppData to its own share

yep, I notice you have "Application Data" instead of "AppData" that I have - will that matter?

Shouldn't do, but you could try it my way to see if it makes a difference.

Did the same. Attached image - left is what I enter, and then when I go straight back in to setting it changes to the image to the right

What you do on the left and what happens on the right is exactly the same with mine.

Are your NTFS permissions correct? For the time being give Authenticated Users full control.

I totally opened it up while testing, so 'everyone' has full control.

Are you keeping your XP and 7 GPOs separate?

I've got one for XP and one for 7 but they are filtered by WMI.

Yeah, we have a one for each, controlled by WMI too, but on top of that we have no XP machines any more, so no confusion can be had in that respect really.

Any other ideas, because I'm all out.... might there be another GPO upsetting it?

Create a new OU and do a block inheritance on it.

Start with a fresh GPO with what I've stated earlier, and create a test user account.

Let me know what your findings are.

Created a new OU with a test teacher and student account, inheritence blocked (and working as when logged on it was totally different), clean profiles etc.

But still doing it. The only GPO applied is the one redirecting AppData, it doesn't do anything else.
