Documents Redirection Problem?
I've got an annoying problem here. I've got Documents set up to redirect for pupils to their home drive. This is done via the most basic method of redirecting all pupils to their home directory in a GPO.
When I look at events, I get an event 502 which states "Failed to apply policy and redirect folder "Documents" to "%HOMESHARE\Users\Username.Domain". \ Redirection options=0x9000. \The following error occurred: "".\ Error details: "The specified is invalid. ".
Which makes no sense, as the home directory path is not that at all. It should be "\\STORAGE\pupils$\Username\Documents".
Anyone got any ideas why it is using the wrong path?

Technically, that's the right path - if you have the User Home folder path set to a network location (under user properties).
You need to check to see if the user Properties location ties in with the GPO location. If you're not using that setting, check to see whether it has accidentally been set.
HOMEDRIVE/HOMEPATH is where the user has his personal files, e.g. downloads, music, documents, etc.
HOMESHARE is used instead of HOMEDRIVE if the home directory uses UNC paths.

Ok, not sure what you mean there.
In AD, users have Home folder: Connect W: To \\STORAGE\pupils$\year\user\documents.
In the GPO I have "Basic - Redirect everyone's folder to the same location" "Redirect to the user's home directory".
So, I don't see what settings you mean, and I don't see how that path is correct.

Hmm, you have a point. It looks exactly like it's trying to "Create a folder for each user under the root path" in the GPO - I hadn't figured just how odd that redirection actually is.

That path you re-direct to does it exist? I did something similar and it was a 2 stage process, firstly do it as this and apply the change to AD:

Give it 30 seconds to sort itself out and then change the path to
Connect W: To \\STORAGE\pupils$\year\username\documents
That seemed to solve issues as it didn't like going to the documents subfolder for some reason and as you can do that as a bulk change I never worried about why that was.

They do exist, yes. I did that process when I set them up in the first place.

Does it work if there is no profile set? I have seen redirection fail due to a broken profile, even while everything was set correctly.
