Story Telling Alice & W7 Rights

Yes I know Story Telling Alice is old software - but it does just what we want.
Or it did until we moved to Windows 7.

Would really appreciate any suggestions as to solution or workaround that does not require old pupils having admin rights

At the moment will only run with full Admin rights (either via run as or logged on as) - clearly not a place I want to be.

Have read many forums - tried various permission changes on folders et al - but only runs to a point - changes screen colour - shows as running process in task Manager - then give this Java error

Not familiar with the software, but will it run in Virtual XP Mode? (Though this does add further complications for storing work).

Virtual PC is on my list of next things to try (but trying to avoid)

Have tried in various XP modes in compatability options
