Which way would you go about creating buttons like the ones in the center of the page like MyCalendar, MyHomepage and the Weblinks one?
Is there some place on the internet full of those graphics like books and the globe?

I can't use the link but i use Wikimedia Commons for all my image needs as they are all copyright/royalty free.
If you look around you can find some nice packages. for example i like the Crystal Clear (Crystal Clear - Wikimedia Commons) and the silk packages (famfamfam.com: Silk Icons)
Just a quick google for something like "GPL/Creative Commons icon set" should turn up a few results.
